يناقش هذا البحث أمراً غيبياً لا يُعلم إلا عن طريق الوحي، قد حيّر العلماء والفلاسفة منذ القديم؛ وهو موضوع الروح، ما هو، وكيف يكون الموت؟، وما الفرق بين الموت والنوم؟، وما هذه الأحلام التي يراها النائم أهي حقيقة أم هذيان وأضغاث؟، أسئلة كثيرة لا تُعرف أجوبتها إلا عن طريق الوحي؛ ولهذا فإن هذا البحث يُركّز على النصوص الشرعية من الكتاب الكريم والسُّنة المطهرة، جمعاً ودراسة وتحقيقاً، ولا يُذكر في البحث من الأحاديث إلا ما يصلح للاحتجاج به ثبوتاً ودلالة. وقد بدأ البحث ببيان معنى النوم، والمراد بالروح، وهل الروح والنفس شيء واحد أو يختلفان؟، ولماذا سمي النوم موتة صغرى، ثم بيّن البحث علاقة الروح بالجسد، وأوضح ما لذي يحدث للروح عند النوم، وفصّل البحث في موضوع الأرواح أين تكون بعد الموت؛ أرواح النبيين، والشهداء، والمؤمنين، وعصاة المؤمنين، والكفار، كما أثبت البحث مسألة التقاء الأرواح عند النوم، والتقاء أرواح الأحياء بأرواح الأموات، والتقاء أرواح الأموات مع بعضهم، كل ذلك من خلال الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية الثابتة.
